Specialists in clinically-based vocational rehabilitation management

Patient triage interview
Once we have received patient consent one of our case principals contacts the patient in order to perform a telephone triage examination of the patient.

The interview’s objective is to introduce us and to gather further clinical information from the patient and identify if a physical examination is required. We do not believe in examining patients if it is not clinically justified.

Importantly, the contact with the patient helps us manage their expectations from our involvement from the outset.

A product of the interview is a detailed report covering demographic information, incident and injury details, treatment information, functional information and rehabilitation considerations. Wherever possible we look for positive outcomes at this stage. The doctor allocated to the patient reviews all triage reports to ensure that the content and recommendations are both clinically appropriate and robust.

It is important to stress that we do not view a telephone-conducted patient interview alone to be clinically robust enough to make immediate treatment recommendations. Where we believe that immediate treatment is viable we always seek the agreement of the patients treating clinicians and GP through direct liaison.

We only believe in examining patients if the clinical features demand it. Where an immediate outcome is not possible we will recommend that we examine the patient and develop a clinically robust rehabilitation and vocational plan.
