The objective of this initial contact is to establish further details surrounding the incident that could have an immediate bearing on the rehabilitation. These typically include:
- Incident and injury details
- Occupational information including the physical demands of the patient’s job
- Absence information
- Return to work information.
We find that this employer information is vital in managing and setting the functional objectives (from a vocational perspective) for the ongoing rehabilitation. Early liaison also has the benefit of:
- Setting the foundation of vocational rehabilitation on which we build throughout the process
- Managing the rehabilitation expectations and realistic return to work timeframes for the employer
- Extending our team rehabilitation philosophy to include the employer and their occupational health teams
- Securing commitment from the employer to support an early return to work
